Sew a skirt in a day for Beginner Dressmakers

This is the perfect Kick-Starter into dressmaking for beginner dressmakers and a great class for anyone just starting out to sew. You must have completed one of our Learn to sew workshops or courses (or equivalent) In this Workshop we take a Really Basic Skirt Pattern and adapt it to your personal fit. Using a standard pattern you will learn plenty of skills and techniques to help you build your confidence.

What you will learn:

  • Understanding and using commercial dressmaking patterns
  • Size and Fit to your own personal measurements
  • Fabric information
  • Laying out, Pinning, marking and cutting out
  • Preparation and essential sewing skills
  • Seams and allowances
  • Hemlines and finishing

What you make:

  • Slim or A-line skirt (unlined) with a choice of styling options (simplified for the level of the class but the Pattern included in this class you can adapt and create more options including adding a lining on another make)

What you need to know

  • You need to bring your own fabric (details are attached to the class confirmation after you book)
  • Its best to buy your own matching threads and notions however we do have supplies you can use if you forget
  • Sizing the patterns are sized for standard 8 – 18 if you are outside these sizes please let us know so we can grade up or down a pattern block prior to the class (essential)
  • Make sure you Bring lunch and snacks to this class it’s a longish day.

Class is from 10 am to 5pm (arrive at least 15 mins early to register as classes start promptly)
