Learn to use your overlocker

The perfect workshop to get you confidently using and sewing with your overlocker, boxed or unboxed we will help you tame your machine and give you a comprehensive introduction to all the elements taking you through how the overlocker works and how the threading system works. We will take an in depth look at the anatomy of your machine and explain the dials and levers. We will give you lots of tips and tricks about sewing and finishing seams. If you have already started using your machine you will certainly still learn lots with some samples and exercises to demonstrate best practices and things you never knew you could do with an overlocker.

This class only available to students who have their own machines

• Adventurous Beginner and Confident Beginner

What you learn:
• Introducing the overlocker
– 4 or 3 threads
– Cutting blade
– Machine anatomy
– Fabric types
– Not just for hems
• Understanding what each thread is doing – thread up with different colours
• Explaining and demonstrating tensions and when and why to change them
• Adjusting stitch length, width and differential feed
• Getting used to using the overlocker – following guides and/or edge of the fabric.
What you make:
• Rolled hem
• Blind hem – Create a small bag using blind hem technique
• Gathers – Create ruffles using gathering technique
• Additional feet – piping, gathering foot, blind hem foot
We Provide:
A selection of fabrics to use in the workshop for your samples

What you need to bring:
Your overlocker and accessories that go with so we can explain what they are (feet that the workshop cover Blind Hem, Piping, gathering) Once booked we will request the make and model of your machine. We also suggest you bring an assortment of coloured threads (a general purpose thread is best)
