Sew Chic!

Sewing Chicks, Chocolate and Great British Sewing Bee

Hi everyone

Easter is over.. chocolate is eaten and the countdown starts for the best event of the year ! Hello out there its Jane sitting behind my sewing machine this week, how did you survive Easter, are the kids still sneaking the chocolate under the bedcovers and do any of you have Corona cabin fever? Its week #4 of lockdown and before we jump into our weekly sewing chat.

A moment of reflection for so many people who have lost their precious lives, family members, good friends and frontline workers this chaotic curse spares no one we are all at risk and we will all, by the time this is over have been deeply touched by the sacrifices made and the grief endured. So please stay safe at home and help eradicate this beast, we will be there for each other to help rebuild and make a better world for everyone soon.

Let’s start of with a super positive bit of exciting news, THE GREAT BRITISH SEWING BEE returns next Wednesday 22 April BBC at 9pm set your alarms reminders or start your countdown clock, you can’t miss this we deserve this weekly treat. We had hoped by now that last year’s winner and local lady Juliet Uzor would be teaching and running her unique Juliet style workshops at our workshops, but alas Corona has knocked that one back a bit but we are looking into the future and excited for when these can restart, head to the website if you are interested in booking a class our favourite is statement sleeves. We will be following and doing a weekly Instagram GBSB post and stories so please interact, comment and tag, you never know maybe we can have our own GBSB virtual frocktail after party!

I’ve loved hearing from my Kids stitch clubbers and a few keen adults. The surprise craft boxes we sent out and as promised we will be posting the results of these on Insta over the next week…here is a sneak peak at Frankie’s Chicks on sticks my favourite is the Rockstar one in the middle!
These are not for the barbeque please!

If you are looking for something to keep yourself or the kids busy next week we have collaborated with @fabdabdo_ for some nature art weaving, check out our Facebook and Instagram feeds for details. We are also putting together some simple zero waste sewing at home ideas for the kids and thinking about printable cheat sheets to help you when you are having a help me moment. Let us know if you are interested.

As no one really knows as yet when life as we once knew it can be redeemed, we thought we would start a weekly online sewing surgery for guidance and help, we will let you know when we have sorted out the details. If you are in need of some teacher support do drop us a line we are here to help you.

Has anyone else noticed that Time Out has temporarily changed its name to Time In? I loved seeing this as I was looking for some in culture at the weekend, I stumbled across a whole new world of virtual art and museum tours. I know our eyes are in digital overload at present but if you have lockdown blues and need an art fix, grab a coffee and take a break from the chores head to freebies grab this now.

If you have not heard of contrado then this will 100% get you jumping for joy whilst I was ordering some swatches I discovered this company are also offering their scraps of fabric free (oh yes) there bit to creating a zero waste production and all you pay is postage this is perfect for your crafty experiments get ordering now!

Before I sign off I wanted to say well done and thank you to one of keen sewists Ann who came to one of our most popular learn to sew courses at the beginning of the year and took our advice to practice practice to perfect ! to the delight of her local NHS workers making scrubs bags what a sewing star and keep up the good work.
